Why subscribe?

Subscribe to get weekly creative writing prompts directly in your inbox. Plus, a curation of other writing-related bits and bobs.

The newsletter goes out on Fridays and is designed to (hopefully) give you some creative motivation for the weekend ahead.

Since writing is about so much more than words, and I happen to be extremely online, this newsletter will also feature curated content related to writing.

A bit about me

Hey, I’m Steph (she/her). I do pretty okay for myself running a freelance writing and editing business, but creative writing is my little secret hideaway. I started Prompted during the pandemic because I was hungry for community and determined to set aside time for creative pursuits. And I deal with imposter syndrome a lot. So I figured there have to be other writers out there who feel the same, right?

I paused the newsletter because I struggled with work-life balance. Now? I’m still the kind of person who checks my email compulsively. But slowly getting better at separating my two selves.

In late 2023, I had a major surgery to remove a huge chunk of my liver and my whole gallbladder to get rid of some pesky tumors. They turned out to be benign. But the whole ordeal, including very bad pain management protocols, two 15+ hour post-surgery ER visits, a stubborn infected abcess, a drain insertion, and many months of recovery, did a number on me.

Did I learn any lessons? Nope!!! I even worked from my hospital bed! I was literally a that character on Grey’s Anatomy who refuses to shut her laptop despite having some major medical emergency.

November 2024: I finally took my first vacation in over 10 years where I didn’t study or work. [Side note: On my honeymoon in 2016, I actually had to login to the shitty Wifi to complete exams. Unhinged.] And while it was lovely, I didn’t feel happy and glowy after the fact. Like, at all.

So here I am in an attempt to prioritize happiness.

Through Prompted, I hope to cultivate a community of writers and creatives who feel like they don’t quite fit into a creative box. Or maybe you fit in, but you’re curious about this side of the looking glass. Come on in. We’re supportive, kind, and not too self-serious.
